Monday Meditation: The Tree

For Monday Meditation, I pulled The Tree.

The Tree is all about grounding, stability, safety, and patience. It is here to tell us about the importance of finding stability and safety in oneself, and being firmly rooted in who we are. At the same time, it reminds us to be patient with ourselves throughout our stages of growth. The day that we plant the seed is not the same as when we see the fruit; in fact, sometimes it takes a lifetime for that to happen.

Since turning 30, I’ve learned that real stability is hardly about material gain, and far more about the solid grasp that you have of yourself. Building your foundation on external things, like a career or relationship, will leave you completely adrift if they become shaky or removed from your life. But who you are at your core is immovable. It is going to be what sustains you and truly keeps you safe.

The Tree also begs, “how deeply do you know yourself?” How aware are you of your fears, your dreams, your kinks, etc.? All these little details are what comprise the entirety of who you are; they are the branches and the leaves of your individual tree. And just the same, you are also a branch of your family tree. If you’re removed or not, there are things you carry with you from your lineage—do you know what those things are? Take the heirlooms and discard the baggage.

Lastly, an important note of this card is patience. Growth is a journey, an often painstaking process, and it takes a season to cultivate, another to sow, and yet another to reap. We have to regard ourselves with the same respect.
