Monday Meditation: The River

This week, I pulled The River.

The River has been my greatest teacher and most loyal refuge for most of my life. I was born in a city built on a river, which is surrounded by many others, and so I carry this energy with me very deeply as a part of my being.

The River shows us the power of resilience and being persistent, first and foremost. Its waters can at times be calm, and other times raging; you can never really tell by first glance the depth or strength of the river itself. Its waters follow the path of least resistance, bending and winding around any obstacles effortlessly. In the same vein, it beats away with slow precision anything in its path until it has smoothed over even the most jagged of stones and carved a new route of its own.

It reminds us the power of going with the flow of your heart and desires, but also not to get carried away by our whims. Following the river leads us to life and nourishment at its embankments. Things flourish near its sweet waters, and living creatures seek its sustenance; but you wouldn’t throw yourself in it with reckless abandon, less you find yourself pummeled mercilessly.

The River asks you to define your path. Take note of what makes your heart sing, and follow that ruthlessly. Regardless of the obstacles that inevitably come your way, remain resilient, and with consistency and patience, you will reach your paradise.
